節水、時短にもつながる！環境にも人にも優しい洗濯洗剤に出会うまで

ファッションが大好きでアパレル店員として２０年間働いてきたこともあり、洋服のお手入れ方法について聞かれることも多いです。「もっといい洗剤ないかな？」と探している方も、「エコが気になってきた」という方も、洗剤選びのことを一緒に考えていただけると嬉しいです。

香りと環境に優しい洗濯洗剤さがし・・・だけど私が感じたデメリット

結婚後、夫から「優しい香りの洗剤にしてほしい」と言われました。人工的で強い香りが苦手とのこと。

 探していると「香りが優しい洗剤」は「環境に優しい」ものが多いと気づきました。それなら、どちらも満たしたものをみつけたい。ただ、いろいろ試すと、優しいゆえに洗浄力も穏やかで、デメリットを感じる部分もありました。

例えば

・１回の使用量が多くなり、レフィルのサイズも大きい！重たくて詰め替えが大変でした。

・すぐなくなるので注文のペースが早い。「割高感」が強くなります。

・汚れ落ちが弱く、酸素系漂白剤を併用することもありました。「本当にエコになってる？」と疑問に思うことも。

「あと一歩、惜しい」と感じながら探し続けました。

そして、たどり着いたのが「THE」の洗濯洗剤です。

500mlの洗剤に天然のラベンダー精油が５ml入っています。干しながら、ほのかな香りにうっとり。夫に確認したら「優しくていい」とのこと。では、汚れ落ちと環境へのやさしさは？

1週間で100％自然に還るから川にも海にも優しい洗剤！

使用量は水量30L（洗濯物3kg）に対してたった５ml。つまりこの１本で100回使えます。海洋タンカーの事故処理研究を応用したテクノロジーで、一般的な洗濯洗剤の1/6の量でも、しっかりと汚れを落とせるのだそうです。また、洗剤で落ちた汚れの再付着を防いでくれるので、すすぎは1回。家族を人別に分けて洗う方も、一緒に洗濯するハードルが下がるかも。

・柔軟剤はいらない

さらに嬉しいのは、柔軟剤を必要としないこと。衣類の素材は、植物由来・動物由来・化学繊維など、さまざま。洗剤との組み合わせによっては、傷みやすいことも。

ところが「THE」は中性。だから綿・麻・化繊・ウール・シルクだけでなく、ダウンやレインウエアまで、素材を守りながら洗えます。シンプルということは、海に流すものも少ないということですよね。

Water-saving, Time-saving! A Laundry Detergent that Cares for People and the Planet

Having worked as a clothing store clerk for 20 years due to my love for fashion, I'm often asked about garment care. 'Is there a better detergent?' or 'I'm concerned about being eco-friendly.' I'm pleased to consider the choice of detergent with you. 

Searching for a fragrant and eco-friendly laundry detergent... but I found some drawbacks.

After my marriage, my husband told me he wished for a 'gentler scent' from the laundry detergent as he disliked a strong artificial scent.

While exploring laundry soaps, I found that most 'gentle scents' were 'eco-friendly' brands. If you could have it both ways, it would be ideal. However, because the scent is gentle, the cleaning power often decreased. After trying many brands, I noticed some shortcomings:

For instance,

• The amount used each time increased, and the refill size was larger! It was heavy and hard to replace.
  
• Because it ran out quickly, reordering happened fast. This gave a stronger 'expensive' feeling.
  
• The cleaning effect was unsatisfactory, and sometimes oxygen bleach was required. This raised the question, 'Is this really environmentally friendly?'
  

'Just one step away from perfection,' I thought as I continued my search. 

Eventually, I found 'THE' laundry detergent.

500 ml of the detergent contains 5 ml of natural lavender essential oil. After drying, the gentle scent is refreshing. After confirming with my husband, he said, 'The scent is mild.' What about its cleaning power and eco-friendliness?

The detergent can decompose 100% naturally within a week, making it very friendly to rivers and the ocean!

When using 30 litres of water (3 kg of clothes), only 5 ml is needed. This means you can use the bottle 100 times. Inspired by the technology used in marine oil spill cleanups, it can thoroughly remove stains even with only 1/6th the amount of regular detergent. It also prevents stains from reattaching to clothes. Therefore, only one rinse is required. This could lower the barrier for families washing clothes separately or together.

・No need for fabric softener

What's more exciting is that this detergent doesn't require fabric softener. There are different types of fabric materials like plant-based, animal-based, and synthetic fibres, and some materials can be damaged by the combination of detergents.

However, 'THE' detergent is neutral, thereby protecting cotton, linen, synthetic fibres, wool, and silk, as well as cleaning down jackets and raincoats. The simplicity of the detergent also means less pollution entering the ocean.

・Since it can decompose entirely naturally within a week, the detergent is very friendly to rivers and oceans.

The destination of the wastewater is astonishing. While regular detergents require a month for biodegradation, 'THE' can decompose 94% in just one day, and entirely return to nature after a week. Water circulates on Earth, so it's important to keep it as clean as possible. This is one of the main reasons I continue to use 'THE'.

Save water and time! It's friendly to the environment and to me

Initially, I was sceptical, asking myself 'Is this small amount enough?' but I've been using it for five years now. As laundry is a daily task in my household, the single rinse saves a significant amount of water and also time. Even without fabric softener, towels become soft with this detergent. Additionally, there's no peculiar smell when drying indoors.

I was once concerned about the size of the detergent, but it's actually compact and can be easily lifted with one hand. It fits perfectly into the basket on the shelf. Moreover, the refill for the detergent is also very compact and can easily be stored under the washbasin.

Furthermore, for me, the packaging of a product is also crucial. The minimalist and elegant style of this detergent makes me feel comfortable and satisfied every time I use it. This sense of style is also significant.

My accumulated efforts are protecting the future of Earth.

'Sustainability' might sound challenging, but it's achievable just by changing your laundry detergent. Perhaps it's the simplicity that makes it sustainable. It may sound a bit grand, but I believe my efforts are protecting the future of Earth.
